KINGS HILL, WEST MALLING, KENT
Cool Systems were asked to look at the prestigious site in Kings Hill, West Malling by one of their existing clients, Innovate Space Ltd, with the view of providing an environmentally friendly cooling/heating and fresh air solution for the end user Searchflow. The proposal was to redesign the ground floor to suite the new client's requirements; these included creating new cellular offices and a theatre suite. The building had a Trane VAV system as its core heating and cooling system which did not lend itself to accurate temperature control in small office spaces. Working closely with The Anslow Partnership a new heat recovery system was designed to take care of the loads in the new spaces and a reconfiguration of the existing VAV boxes carried out to suit the client's requirements. In the larger theatre suite a Skanair Air Handling system was selected to work with the Trane VAV system.
Solution:
With the theatre area needing additional fresh air because of the high density of people the best solution was to install a roof mounted air handling plant. This would provide additional cooling when required but also incorporate a CO2 sensor that would detect the additional load of people in the space and supply the correct level of fresh air to the area when required. The plant was fitted with a Lonworks Gateway and was bonded with the existing Trend BMS so as to work alongside the Trane VAV system.
The new cellular offices were to be served by an inverter-driven Mitsubishi Electric heat recovery system for cooling and heating with a Losnnay fresh air system to provide the correct level of fresh air to the spaces. PEFY-P ducted fan coils were selected and fed swirl diffusers with perforated panels to distribute the air. This was in keeping with the existing aesthetics. Hard wired controllers with weekly timers were installed for accurate time control.
With a very tight works program of four weeks, Cool Systems site management team worked closely with the Anslow Partnership and Innovate Space Ltd. A timely crane arrangement saw the two PUHZ-PR100 condensers, the City Multi condenser and the Air Handling plant lifted and placed in position. Cool Systems ensured the project was delivered on time and to Cool Systems usual high standards.
Working with Trane, Cool Systems commissioned the Skanair plant and bonded the Lonworks Gateway with the Trend BMS. The Mitsubishi Electric equipment will be covered by Cool Systems for three years after the maintenance agreement has been signed by Searchflow.
